Happy Birthday PaPa!

Papa celebrated his birthday with Yee Sinn for the first time yesterday. I took a day off work to give hubby a surprise. I packed Yee Sinn in the sling and we both went to his school in a cab with a carrot cake from Cedele.

Yee Sinn was the center of attention among hubby's colleague as he proudly brought her round their cubicles to say "hi". Being curious, she kept observing the different people around her and all the colourful strange posters and piles of marking scripts in the staff room.

We had more fun while at Sokodo Japanese Restuarant at Raffles City for our lunch. As it was pretty much empty around 2 plus, we were able to kid around a little and pose for a few pictures. It's nice to be able to spend some family time like this together once in a while.

Weekend was a little adventure for Yee Sinn. She experienced her FIRST ride in the MRT train. Unfortunately, she fell asleep soon after boarding. We took a ride to Dhoby Ghaut for a mini birthday celebration for her Papa. Yes, this is also her first time she celebrates her papa's birthday. It was quite uneventful until we sat down for dinner at The Cathay.

After getting herself comfortable, she began her usual vocal practise, thinking it was home. Her "Argh.. Argh... Argh..." just got louder and louder over time, not withstanding spouts of saliva that comes with it. We had to take her out of the restaurant for some time-out once awhile to avoid embarrassments. The waitresses there thought Yee Sinn was being cute and responsive but I think they were just being polite. Oh well, guess we'll have to bring her out more often so that she have the opportunity to practise proper social behaviour.

Learning to Let Go

Yee Sinn is really growing up very quickly. She has been rejecting my boobs and refusing to latch on for the last 3 nights. Either she knows it’s un-cool to drink from mama’s boobies or she’s impatient with the flow of milk as it is much faster with the bottle. I’m starting to miss the bonding sessions we shared during such intimate times already. Sigh.

Snip Snip Snip. That was what we did on Sunday afternoon. After we came back from Grandma Chang’s place, we sat Yee Sinn down to have her first haircut. She was clueless of what we were going to do to her hair. After snipping some turf of hair away then she began to whine. Either she was uncomfortable with the bits of hair on her face or she was upset with mummy’s lousy haircutting skills. There are now an obvious empty patch by each side of her head. *Guilty*

We popped by Uncle Colin’s place in the evening. He just moved into a 4 room flat in Sengkang. It was definitely much more spacious then his previous studio apartment. Yee Sinn surprised us with her chattiness with uncle colin as usually she is very shy with strangers. She behaved herself very well, playing by herself and eventually fell asleep on her changing mat on the floor at a corner of the room while mummy, papa and Uncle Colin jammed on his new Steingraeber & Sohne piano with our violin.

We drove to an Italian restaurant along Upper Thomson road for a nice casual meal in celebration of Father’s Day.

Yee Sinn has been curious about touching things these few days. So I made some agar for her to play with yesterday morning. She was cautious about putting her hands and fingers into the plate of agar. But after a while, she sunk her fingers into it, making cute prints.

Hubby hasn't been shaving his face clean these few days either. We thought his pricky face would provide some simulation for Yee Sinn as well. When his facial hair got a bit long, I told hubby to shave it till there are stubbles so that it'll be pricky again. We'll probably let her sink her hands into some grains like barley or rice the next few days. Hope I'll be around when she tries them.

It's June school holiday and Yee Sinn's Papa has been a home the last 2 weeks. I am sure Yee Sinn has been enjoying herself with the activities her papa has for her.

She has been behaving because Papa is pretty strict with her. Nowadays, she'll concentrate while drinking her milk (with no toys or talking for distraction). Once she finishes the last ounce, her papa will praise her for her good behaviour and she'll immediately give him her sweetest smile. She knows that she'll be rewarded almost immediately with his silly games. Smart girl!

Yee Sinn is able to recognise faces. She know's who is familiar and who isn't. She'll give me a smile or coo at me the moment she sees me when she wakes up or when I get back home from work. If she meets stangers in the lift, she'll keep very very quiet and look at them suspiciously from the corner of her eyes.
